Some of you may have noticed that we have started installing CCTV and door entry systems in our move towards [...]

Some of you may have noticed that we have started installing CCTV and door entry systems in our move towards turning our club 24 hour. We have answered some of the most common questions below to let you know in advance about the changes:

When will the club turn 24 hour?
At this stage we do not have an exact date as we have to submit an application to the council to change our opening times. We are not sure how long it will take to get an answer. We are currently allowed to trade between the hours of 5am – 10pm, 7 days per week so we decided to go ahead with installing the CCTV and door entry systems anyway as it means that we will be able to issue door access cards to enable you to train between those hours. This means that you will now be able to train on Sunday afternoons and public holidays. As soon as we get approval from the council we can turn the access into 24 hour.

Will membership prices increase?
At this stage we have no plans to increase our existing membership prices, although to cover the cost of the new cards and entry system, you will need to purchase an access card for $29. This is a one off card fee. Unfortunately this card fee cannot be waived as we have to pay for them. Most gyms will usually charge this as a joining fee at the start of the membership and up until now we have been able to survive without charging any joining fees, but the card fee will be compulsory if you wish to train outside of staffed hours. The cards will be available to purchase from Tuesday 15th May.

What will the staff hours be?
The shifts are still being finalised but it will look something like this: 6am -10am & 4 – 8pm Monday to Thursday and 6am – 10am & 5pm – 8pm Fridays and 7am – 12pm Saturdays. These are the hours that we will advertise on the website for new sales and membership enquiries, however it is likely that you will still see me (Jenny – club manager) throughout the day along with the personal trainers and group fitness instructors, so you can rest assured that there will still be friendly staff to welcome you into the gym, and keep you motivated during your workout. These hours will not be in effect until Saturday 26th May so our normal staffed hours will continue until then.

What safety measures are you taking?
Homeworld Helensvale has recently increased their security measures and now has onsite security and canine patrol between the hours of 10pm – 5am. In the gym we will have digital high definition CCTV cameras, panic buttons, distress lanyards that can be worn while you are training and swipe card entry systems to the main doors and the bathrooms. If the panic buttons or lanyards are pressed, it will automatically call our help desk who will send out the emergency services if necessary.

Will all of the equipment still be available to use?
Our insurance policy stipulates that free weight Olympic bars have to be locked away whenever there is no staff on premises. Other than that all of the other equipment will be available to use.

Will there be any changes to the group fitness timetable?
We are not planning to make any changes to the classes, so as long as the participant numbers stay high, then the classes will remain.

Will there be any changes to the terms and conditions of membership?
There will be some amendments to our existing terms and conditions and a copy of these will be available on our website and at reception. The main changes are that it is extremely important that members follow our club rules regarding cleaning the sweat off the machines after use, racking your weights and using a towel when training. There will also be a strict policy which ensures that only the owner of the membership uses the access card to enter the gym, and they do not allow any non-members into the gym. Anyone found to break these rules could face their membership being terminated, and a cancellation fee of $250 being charged. We do not like to enforce such rules, however doing so ensures that First Choice Fitness remains a pleasant and safe environment to train in.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to see us at reception.

Our Broadbeach gym has now turned 24 hour offering you the convenience to train on your schedule, without losing any of our existing services. Please see below for answers to some of our frequently asked questions.

How do I gain access into the club?
If you wish to use the gym outside of the staffed hours you will need to purchase a door access key from reception for $29. This is a one off card fee. Unfortunately this card fee cannot be waived as we have to pay for them. The staff hours will be 6.30am – 11.00am & 12pm – 9pm Monday to Thursday, 6.30am – 4pm Fridays and 9am – 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You will still see the personal trainers in the gym at various times of day.

Will membership prices increase?
At this stage we have no plans to increase our existing membership prices.

What safety measures are you taking?

The Oasis Shopping Centre has 24 hour security and Broadbeach is busy at all times of night.

What is Boxfit?

Boxfit is a dynamic boxing style workout using focus mitts, boxing gloves and kick shields and is a serious calorie burner.

Do you have to have tried boxing before to participate?

Absolutely not! In fact we encourage new participants to take up this fantastic sport and experience a fun way to train that fast tracks your results. You will be taught boxing techniques and circuit drills. For those who have boxed before, we also have a boxing techniques class on Wednesday evenings at 6.00pm if you are ready to take it to the next level.

What do I need to bring?

Just a towel and a water bottle. All gloves, pads and kick shields will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you have them. Hand wraps should be worn if you have weak wrists and these can be purchased at any sports store (we will be selling them at reception very soon) and white cotton inner gloves are encouraged for hygiene purposes (also available at reception very soon).

Do I have to book?

No, spaces are on a first come, first serve basis. See you in the class!
